It's a runner's and history buff's weekend in Culpeper — the Cedar Mountain Battlefield Foundation is holding its very first race Saturday morning, paired with an afternoon battlefield tour that walks the same ground. Add trivia at Belmont Farm Friday, a three-day worship gathering downtown culminating in a Saturday communion table, oysters at DuCard Vineyards, and a Pink Floyd tribute show at night, and the county's got a little bit of everything this weekend. Saturday, September 26 | 8:30–11:00 AM 📍 Culpeper Battlefields State Park – Cedar Mountain Unit, 9465 General Winder Rd, Rapidan
This is the Cedar Mountain Battlefield Foundation's first-ever race — a 5K and 10K through the 160 wooded and open acres of the Cedar Mountain Battlefield, a nature reserve with well-maintained trails for runners, birders, and dog walkers year-round. Every entry fee goes straight to CMBF's stewardship of the park, the all-volunteer nonprofit that maintains, preserves, and interprets the site of the August 9, 1862 battle.
Stick around after the race: at noon the Foundation runs the Crawford's Brigade at Cedar Mountain Battlefield Tour ($15), a three-stop driving tour from Culpeper National Cemetery to Cedar Run Baptist Church to the battlefield itself, tracing Brig. Gen. Samuel Crawford's Federal brigade through its assault on "Stonewall" Jackson's troops. Run in the morning, walk the history in the afternoon — a full Culpeper Saturday.
